FOR THE WITCH WHO READS HER OWN RUNES

Draw a rune and know what it's telling you before the moment passes.

The Rune Companion open on the Algiz spread: the rune drawn large with its name, keywords and the Old English Rune Poem on the left, and on the right its upright and reversed meaning, a line for love, work, money, wellbeing and protection, and its meaning in a three-rune spread

The bag in one hand, a stone in the other, a question you really care about. That's the moment you want an answer, not a search.

Here, every rune has its own spread. On the left: the rune drawn large, its name, how to say it, a hook to remember the shape, and what the Old English Rune Poem says, labeled From the sources. On the right, labeled In practice: what it means upright and reversed, a line for love, work, money, wellbeing and protection, and what it means as the situation, the challenge or the advice.

Small enough to keep in your bag, by your bed, beside your runes.

YOU DREW THE RUNE. NOW YOU'RE HUNTING FOR WHAT IT MEANS.

Mid-reading, the answer is never where you need it...

  • Flipping through a big book while the stone sits in your palm.

  • Three websites, three different meanings, and no way to tell what's old and what's new.

  • A one-word keyword that says nothing about the question you asked.

  • Charts that list meanings and never show you how to read three runes together.

The runes aren't the hard part. Hunting for the answer is.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS WHEN EVERY RUNE HAS ITS OWN SPREAD
  • Find your rune by its shape on the index, turn to its page, read.

  • A line for each part of your life: love, work, money, wellbeing and protection.

  • Its meaning as the situation, the challenge or the advice in a three-rune spread.

  • From the sources and In practice, always labeled, so you know what's old and what's modern.

  • A question to ask yourself and lines for your own notes on every rune.

YOU STAY IN THE READING, NOT IN THE SEARCH.

ONE READING, START TO FINISH

Read three runes as one story you can act on.

WORKED READING 1 OF 4 · LOVE · P 64

Two worked readings: Where is my relationship going? with Gebo, Isa and Laguz, and Should I ask for a raise? with Fehu, Thurisaz reversed and Tiwaz, each with the lines by position, the story and one action

The question: "Where is my relationship going?" Three runes, laid left to right.

  1. Gebo, the situation: a real bond, a give and take.
  2. Isa, the challenge: something has gone cold or quiet between you.
  3. Laguz, the advice: talk about feelings, and trust what you sense.

Then you read it as one story: "The bond is real, but something has frozen. Don't force it. Say what you feel, gently, and listen to your gut about the answer." And one action to take: choose one calm evening this week to talk.

Four worked readings show you how, about love, work, a choice and a heavy week, so your own readings follow the same steps.

What you'll do with it in your hand

A few of the things inside, with the pages they're on.

  • Draw one rune each morning. Read its line, ask the question at the foot of its page, and look back that night (p 60).
  • Read three runes as one sentence. "Because of this, that is hard, so do this," then one action for the week (p 61).
  • Follow a question through time. The Norns: what has been, what is becoming, what shall be (p 62).
  • Cast nine runes for the whole picture. Read only the runes facing up, center first, the edge for outside influences (p 63).
  • Spot the runes that come up together. Sixteen pairs, like Gebo and Wunjo: a happy, balanced relationship (pp 68 to 69).
  • Draw a bind rune where you want it. Guarded Home inside the front door frame, Steady Money in your wallet (p 73).
  • Write a name in Theban. The witches' alphabet, traced from Agrippa's plate of 1651 (p 76).
  • Keep your own notes on each rune. Lines on every rune's page, plus two notes pages for a rune diary (pp 77 to 78).
MADE TO GO WITH YOUR RUNE BOOK

The book you read with your runes, beside the book you learn from

The Rune Companion standing beside Runes, Sigils & Magical Alphabets on a wooden table with a candle and a leather rune pouch, showing the pocket size next to the full book

The Rune Companion is the reading book, the one you open with the stones in your hand. Its partner, Runes, Sigils & Magical Alphabets, teaches every rune with its full sources and rune poem, three sigil methods, bind runes, five magical alphabets and practice pages.

The companion works on its own. With the full book, you get the same runes and the same two labeled layers, one to learn from at your table and one to read from wherever you draw.

The questions people ask first

Straight answers, from the book itself.

1.I'm new to runes. Can I start with this?

Yes. Page 2 shows how to use it in three steps, and the index on page 3 lets you find any rune by its shape. Start with One Rune a Day (p 60): draw one rune, read its page, and look back that evening. When you want the full teaching, sources and practice pages, they're in Runes, Sigils & Magical Alphabets.

2.Do I need Runes, Sigils & Magical Alphabets to use it?

No. The companion works on its own: the meaning of all 24 runes, a daily draw and four spreads, four worked readings, sixteen pairs, twelve bind runes and the Theban alphabet are all inside. It's made to go with the full book, which teaches every rune with its full sources and rune poem, three sigil methods, five magical alphabets and practice pages.

3.What do I get for each rune?

Two facing pages. On the left: the rune drawn large, its name, how to say it, four keywords, a hook to remember the shape and what the Old English Rune Poem says. On the right: its upright and reversed meaning, a line for love, work, money, wellbeing and protection, its meaning as the situation, the challenge or the advice, a question to ask yourself and lines for your notes.

4.What about reversed runes, or a rune that lands on its side?

Each rune's page gives a Reversed line, or tells you it reads the same both ways: nine runes look the same upside down. Quick Answers (p 59) covers the rest: choose one way with reversals and keep to it, decide your rule for a rune on its side before you draw, and don't redraw an answer you didn't like.

5.Do I need a rune set?

You need runes to draw from: the companion is the book you read beside them. Any Elder Futhark set of 24 works, in stone, wood or card. If your set has a blank rune, page 59 tells you where it came from (Ralph Blum, 1982), so you can use it or leave it out.

6.Is it Wiccan or Norse pagan?

Neither. It's written for anyone who reads runes, on any path. History is told as history, labeled From the sources, and nothing asks you to worship or follow a tradition. The book also says plainly what's modern: there's little evidence of rune reading in the Viking Age, and casting runes is a modern practice, and a good one.

7.Can a reading tell me what will happen?

No reading decides anything for you. The companion reads each rune as a situation, a challenge and advice, and every worked reading ends with one action you can take. Nothing in it replaces a doctor, a therapist, a lawyer or a financial advisor.

8.How big is it?

It's a pocket paperback, 4.25 x 6.875 in (about 10.8 x 17.5 cm), with 80 pages, a black-and-white interior and a color cover. It fits in a bag, or beside your runes on a bedside table.

9.How does shipping work, and what if it isn't for me?

Your copy is printed when you order and shipped to you, with the delivery estimate shown at checkout. You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee: if it isn't the book you wanted, you get your money back.
