“Is the set right for me?”

1.I'm new to this. Can I start with all four?
Yes. Each book starts with Before You Begin: a first working for tonight, how a working is built, your kit, timing, safety and the method, with a worked example. Every working then gives the old words, why it is done that way and numbered steps, so you never need another book to follow it.
2.Which book should I open first?
The one for what you want most right now. Each book has a Finder at the front (pp 6 to 7) that takes you from a place, a need or a season straight to the page, and a first working on p 11 you can do the same evening.
3.Do the four books repeat each other?
No. Each book keeps its own customs. Where a custom belongs to another book, it names that book instead of printing it twice: the new-moon love charm lives in Love & Relationships, for example, and New Year luck lives in Prosperity.
4.Is it Wiccan?
No. The books don't follow Wicca or any one modern path. Every working comes from old printed books of folk custom, mostly from England and Scotland, from Pliny in AD 77 to collectors of 1900 and 1902. Peace & Renewal shows only the days its sources record, not a modern eight-spoke wheel.
5.Is there religious content?
Some old charms are Christian prayers. They are printed as written, and beside them sits a version without the names, marked as ours, so you can choose.
6.I have pets. Is that a problem?
Every plant used in a working has its pet line from the ASPCA, and each working with a pet, plant or fire risk says so in its safety strip. Toxic plants appear only on the Never use page, told as history, never as an ingredient. Some plants in the herbals are toxic to pets, and the books say which.
7.Do I need to buy special things?
Kitchen and garden things come first: bay leaves, rosemary, salt, bread, a candle in a jar, red thread. A few workings call for something you may need to find or buy, like a rowan twig or a horseshoe, and the book offers an alternative where it can. Nothing sold as magic is needed.
8.What do "Old" and "Old pattern, adapted" mean?
Old means the working is done as the source records it. Old pattern, adapted means the old record changed for today, and a "What we changed, and why" box tells you exactly what. Modern means no old source; no working in Part Two of any book carries that label.
9.Will the workings bring love, money or protection?
The books promise no results, and say so plainly. They give you the old customs, where each one comes from and the steps to do it today. What you make of them is yours.
